Getting a “great shot” isn’t easy but my son and his wife have entirely different styles of shooting wedding and event photos. Stephanie is a “fast shot” taking hundreds of photos within a 2-4 hour window while my son, Robert has to be a perfectionist regarding the lighting, the pose, etc. Next weekend Robert will be doing the videography at a wedding while Stephanie handles the photos because I think this will “work” more effectively.
Their different styles work well along with their compensating personalities because two halves make a whole much like my saucy sidekick, Cindy Daniel and I. You see when you work with three generations of your family and they all have big personalities along with unfiltered opinions, things can get saucy on location but since I’m the whip cracker, the task taker and the leader of Texas Twins Events, The Pawning Planners, and Texas Twins Treasures, I can normally “round up and rein in” somebody riding a High Horse around here fairly quickly. A lot of you ask why we are always laughing and smiling. Well friends, we do have a lot of fun together and occasionally even make fun of each other now and then because you’ve gotta have thick skin to do what we do and we do- none of us get our feelings hurt when one of the other team members complains or thinks they can do it better. We get along so well because we are together most of the time and occasionally when you spend as much time as we do together- you get on each other’s nerves now and then. My little Mini Me, Makenna is an overachiever at school and when working at a wedding or event. Makenna wants everything perfect including her teeth and is getting braces in March. She strives to be the best student, the best worker and has ambition with everything she does. Her twin sister, Maryssa Ann (just like my twin, Cindy Ann) is far more interested in fun! Everyone in my family plays a role in the success of my many ventures and, they are almost always smiling and enjoying themselves because they love what we do and the people we help along our unique journey from Fort Worth, Texas. Some of my family members are also “Selfie” Queens and love dramatic makeup (Leigh Ann and Stephaney). How many times have Cindy and I looked haggard that her daughter’s wanted us to “pose for a photo” when they were perfectly coiffed and we were sweaty and messy assembling tables and chairs or working at an event? Too many! These are called “blackmail pics” because the person wanting to take the photo looks great and you look like Hell. You see my twin sister Cindy’s priority is that the Little Pawners look perfect at all times while we may look “less than perfect.” From their shoes to the hair bows- the Mini Me’s of Cindy and I are always the priorities. In fact, when they were born nearly 12 years ago, Cindy and I found a “quick fix” for our hair by buying clip on hair or more commonly called “weaves.” This saves us a minimum of 20-30 minutes everyday and we often put on our makeup sitting in our suv’s because it’s the only “quiet” place we have and because no one bothers us looking for their shoes, car keys or some other item they couldn’t keep up with! The twins informed me this year that they want to begin learning photography and videography and I asked what would Robert and Stephanie do if you guys take over their jobs? Makenna reminded me that we are now taking more trades and doing more event coordination so there will be “plenty of work for everyone and, one day, four Pawning Planners when the twins are older.” It’s true that my team often surprise my twin and I now and again with their ideas about the future of three unique businesses blended together to give anyone the ability to enjoy a Dream Event for budget prices or, a trade for services.Yesterday, I made my “usual visit” to Taylor’s Rental to find tablecloths and napkins for an upcoming event and since everyone wanted to “claim credit” for the Best Photo, I had to advise them that I took a few of my own and remind them that nearly five years ago, I started Texas Twins Events alone. Officiating weddings & funerals while acting as an event coordinator wasn’t easy and a few weeks into it, I enlisted my twin sister, Cindy Daniel.
Nearly a year later, a couple spotted the twins and wanted our Little Pawners in their wedding party. The twins were next on the Family Business train with my niece Stephaney Mahaney hopping on when we needed a Spanish translator and finally, Robert and Stephanie Hafele for budget photography and Leigh Ann Blais for hearing impaired clients as well as being an occasional wedding singer.
My stepdaughter Ann Rowe Alexander and best friend Tammi Leggett often accompany us to help load and set up as well as helping out the wedding party when needed with my Godmother, Virginia Malone keeping up with scheduling to ensure we aren’t overbooked since it’s hard for me to say no.
As I prepare to leave and meet clients at the venue, I realize that part of what works well is that no two of us are exactly alike and neither are our clients.
You have to love what you do and we do! Even my dog Foxy Wortham knows to behave himself when clients visit my home office and a few give him treats if they’ve come to WorthamWorld more than once to discuss their Dream Event. He has his own “following” of dog lovers on my FB, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram pages.
