Fall Festival Fundraiser Gordon, Texas Travels of the Texas Twins Events/Pawning Planners Team With Wendy Wortham & Cindy Daniel…

Packing up my Texas Twins Events Team to head West this afternoon, the usual rift over which vehicles, who was riding with who or driving ensued.  This isn’t unusual for me because when your “team” is compromised of your family, everyone has their own ideas and opinions.  The difference is that I’m the ring leader and whip cracker who isn’t afraid to make the rules. Getting everyone on the road and doing it “on time” is no easy task when you have three generations of family on your team ya all!

Today my saucy sidekick and twin, Cindy Daniel was the copilot on our journey to raise money for the Gordon ISD and Volunteer Fire Department through proceeds of the Fall Festival.

My Aunt operates the Meals on Wheels program for Gordon, Strawn and Mingus out of her food pantry and is heavily involved in all aspects of fundraising for these three small towns.  Aunt Shirley is abreast of everything going on from who is sick or at home and in need of a hot meal and works tirelessly helping others.

Since my sister and I spent all of our Summer’s with Aunt Shirley, we learned the value of helping others at a very young age because we attended all of my Aunt’s activities with her and our 3 cousins, Albert Jr, James and Cynthia Rene.  Teaching children the value of community service was something that both Cindy and I would teach our own children as adults and we believe that the virtues of compassion begin by donating your time and talents to the needy.

With games for the children and a cake walk outside, the interior of the Gordon School that houses Kindergarten through High School offered additional games inside to benefit the PTO while the Volunteer Fire Department served hamburgers and hot dogs along with chips and a drink for $4.00-$5.00 which is a bargain at today’s pricing!

The “big city” may offer many attractions and several things for families seeking entertainment but, it’s only in the rural areas of small town America that the entire town shows up and gives their full support to an event like those hosted in Gordon, Texas.  You could learn a lot about the “good neighbors” who deliver hot plates to those who couldn’t come to the event or, who were sick at home as I watched many families pack a plate to go and stop over to see “so and so” on their way back to their own farmhouse.  In the “country” there are no strangers, they are a tight knit community of friends and neighbors all concerned for one another which is remarkable these days.

Families who celebrate together, who attend church together and look after each other in Gordon, Texas had a wonderful afternoon of cook outs, games and fun that ended with a hay ride trick or treat expedition through town for the children.  As my team and I headed back to Weatherford, Texas to drop off most of our weary travelers, Stephaney asked to grab a bite at the Petro Truck Stop before heading home and my family enjoyed a dinner together and admired our Halloween costumed guests who like us, had enjoyed a wonderful day with their children and families.  Raising money for worthy causes and spending time with your family (even if you argue occassionally), I’m blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy our friends, our family and our community while helping others.
