Wendy Wortham- The Show Must Go On Around Here & It Does…

Texas weather continues to be an issue at outdoor events and it’s one that doesn’t bother myself or my team because we are accustomed to it and a little rain, sleet or hail is part of the business.  You see, much like a mailman- we don’t reschedule due to weather unless the client chooses to.  Late last year, I stood in a flash flood on the Trinity River Bridge to officiate the wedding of a young military couple who only had two hours to marry.

After all, we are committed to overcoming most any issue and are known as the “Wedding Warriors” for a very good reason, we get the job done!  Texas Twins Events was a business that I created years ago to offer low cost solutions for families who couldn’t afford the officiant, the photography, the flowers, the ring pillows, baskets, etc. By building my inventory with my creative cast of Texas Twins Team Members to not only have the inventory but also the staff we’ve seen our fair share of “Disasters & Detours” on a crazy train of unexpected weather, guests, pests and torn wedding dresses, broken teeth, bug bites, and more on the “Travels of these Texas Twins!”

In this line of work, you had better bring a sense of humor baby because no one (including me) could foresee some of the hilarious adventures I’ve seen by creating a business to give anyone regardless of their income, the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful ceremony, a “Life Event.” No Money? No Problem! The Pawning Planners Take Trades!

When I started out nearly 4 1/2 years ago, I was already an experienced floral designer and made all of the bouquets, bouteniers, center pieces and designs for my son, Robert Hafele’s wedding.  Deciding that if I could “pull that off” I could do anything!  I enlisted my twin sister to do the photography for our events while I officiated the ceremony and made the floral designs.

I would later realize that I wasn’t the only one who found my twin sister and saucy sidekick, Cindy Daniel hilarious.  Quickly changing up the team to make Cindy my “eyes and ears” at events and also a perpetual guest cracking jokes and “visiting” I moved my son and his wife, Robert and Stephanie Hafele into the photography.

Couples requested the Little Pawners, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney as flower girls, ring bearers and ushers at events which they loved and collected tips for which thrilled the little Texas Twins!

Arriving at the Martinez Wedding a few years ago, we were surprised to learn that no one spoke English so I quickly called my niece, Stephaney Mahaney, to translate and she is now our English/Spanish translator for the team.

Within months, production companies were contacting me about a reality show based on my award winning blogs pertaining to my unique reflections of our adventures as a family in the wedding and events industry.  Although no one could have predicted this years ago, like everything else in my life, we “rolled with it.” Sizzle Reel Pawning Planners was filmed with Good Clean Fun Productions in Los Angeles.  Explaining how my businesses work by taking trades for services from families who don’t have any money but have antiques, old jewelry, farm equipment and more that my twin and I refurbish and sell through Texas Twins Treasures to recover expenses might sound a little “odd” to a few folks but, the hundreds of families we’ve helped these past four years prove that an idea to help others has worked out well for Two Sets of Texas Twins!

Although we’ve had a few hurdles to overcome, we’ve made Dream Events a reality from Fort Worth, Texas as a team committed to overcoming unexpected mishaps and often arguing from family members who have “their idea of a solution” to whatever the issue may be.  Along the way, we’ve added to our team and rounded out friends who understand my vision and meet new friends at every event by our side.

This “team” has one goal and that goal is to give the gift of a Dream Event to families that no one else would help!  My family is committed to changing the wedding and events industry one family at a time and although we’ve faced several unexpected challenges- we’ve banded together and marched on.  For us, adversity is only a window to crawl through and close for we are the people we’ve never met and look forward to another weekend of events and friends rain or shine?

You can reach back and make a difference in someone’s life by giving the gift of sharing their Dream.  Everyone has a story to tell but by listening, perhaps there is something you or your family have to offer that might give them the gift of wonderful memories to cherish forever.  Sure we have the forgotten item, the family squabbles over restaurants and radio stations but, at the end of the day we are a family and that’s what families do and we are proud to be doing it together as a team!
